Ellie on toiminut liiketoimintalähtöisen tietomallinnuksen sanansaattajana jo viitisen vuotta ja laajentanut asiakaskuntaansa maailmalla voimakkaasti etenkin viimeisen parin vuoden aikana. Tarve liiketoiminnan datatarpeiden ymmärtämiselle ja tuon ymmärryksen kääntämiselle tekniseksi implementaatioksi on valtava ympäri maailman.

Tässä esityksessä käydään läpi meillä ja maailmalla nähtyjä käyttötapauksia ja ratkaisuja, joissa tietomallintaminen on keskeisessä osassa. Datatarpeiden laajentuessa kaikkialle on myös tietomallintamisen hyödyntämisalue laajentunut kauas yli perinteisen tietovarastoinnin, joten perehdymme myös liiketoimintalähtöisen mallintamisen muutamaan tärkeään perussääntöön, joilla mallintaminen erilaisissa hankkeissa ja organisaatioissa onnistuu ja joilla malleilla saadaan myös ohjattua teknistä implementaatiotyötä.

DSharp on liiketoiminnan käsitemallista luotavan tietovarastoinnin edelläkävijä. Olemme tehostaneet mallipohjaisen tietovaraston tekemistä, ja näin pystymme projekteissa panostamaan perinteistä tietoalustaprojektia enemmän asiakkaan tavoitteisiin ja mittareihin.

Esityksessämme näytämme, kuinka kehittämämme ohjelmiston D# Enginen avulla luodaan ketterästi tietovarasto käsitemallista.

Tietovaraston tekeminen aloitetaan menetelmässämme tiedon, tavoitteiden ja tietolähteiden kartoittamisella yhdessä asiakkaan kanssa. Seuraavaksi luodaan käsitemalli ja kohdennetaan data käsitemalliin. D# Engine luo tietovaraston tehdyn käsitemallin pohjalta

Generoituja pilvipalveluratkaisuja – valmiusaste yli 50 %

Tietojärjestelmät tulevat ajoittain elinkaarensa päähän ja ajoittain tulee tarve uusille tietojärjestelmille. Tietojärjestelmien tekemisen tapa on kehittynyt vesiputousmaisesta toiminnasta ketterään kehitykseen – samaan aikaan ovat kehittyneet myös tekemisen työvälineet toimistotyökaluista koodi- ja resurssigeneraattoreihin. Esityksen jälkeiseen keskusteluun osallistuvat myös LeBlanc Oy:stä Janne Hansen ja Petri Savolainen.

Valtiokonttorissa kehitetään ketterästi ja viedään palveluita pilveen. Pilvimatkalla tarvitaan monesti rohkeutta kokeilla uutta ja ottaa joskus hallittuja riskejäkin, mutta toisinaan sovelluskehitykseen voi saada inspiraatiota myös vanhoista hyvistä malleista ja menetelmistä. Uusi esimerkkiratkaisumme palvelun pilveistyksestä, viranomaisvaatimusten mukaiseksi mallinnettu RRP-pilvipalveluratkaisu, syntyi mallinnustyökalun avulla yhdeksässä kuukaudessa – kuin liukuhihnalta.

Virpi Hotti on johtava asiantuntija Valtiokonttorin Tietohallinnossa. Hän vastaa mallikeskeisten työvälineiden, kuten LeBlanc, kehityskoordinoinnista ja tukee toimialoja erilaisissa kehittämistehtävissä ideasta jatkuvaan palvelutuotantoon. Virpin erityisosaamisalueena on erityisesti tiedonhallinnan tietoaineistojen monipuolinen hyödyntäminen.

Mike Ferguson – Data Architecture: Data Lake vs Lakehouse vs Data Mesh

In many companies today the desire to become data driven goes all the way to the boardroom. The expectation is that as more and more data enters the enterprise, it should be possible to understand and use it to quickly and easily drive business value. In order to succeed in creating, a data driven enterprise it is clear that choosing the right data architecture is now critical. However, data and analytics architecture has been evolving over recent years to a point where now there are multiple options. Is it a data lake that is needed? Is it a lakehouse? Or is it a data mesh? Should this be the focus or is it just vendor hype to fuel their own interests?   What are the pros and cons of these options? Is there a best approach? Is a lot more than this needed to succeed? This session explores the evolution of data and analytics architecture and looks at what is needed to shorten time to value and create a data driven enterprise.

Formerly he was a principal and co-founder of Codd and Date Europe Limited – the inventors of the Relational Model, a Chief Architect at Teradata on the Teradata DBMS and European Managing Director of Database Associates.  He teaches popular master classes in Analytics, Big Data, Data Governance & MDM, Data Warehouse Modernisation and Data Lake operations.

Jari Turkia – Ohjaava analytiikka ja sen käyttö, case terveellisen ruokavalion päättely –

Analytiikan hyödyntämisessä on useita eri tasoja. Tutustumme, mihin ohjaava analytiikka sijoittuu ja mitä etuja edistyneemmistä menetelmistä voidaan saada. Analytiikan hyödyntäminen aloitetaan usein visuaalisen tarkastelun kautta eli perusraporteilla. Edistynyt analytiikka perustuu saatavilla olevan tiedon tilastolliseen mallintamiseen. Näitä tiedon lähteitä voivat olla mittaukset ja havainnot, sekä myös asiantuntijoilta saatava kokemusperäinen tieto. Ohjaava analytiikka hyödyntää tätä mallinnusta parhaiden ratkaisujen löytämiseksi haluttuihin kysymyksiin.

Esityksessä syvennymme kliinisen ravitsemusterapian esimerkkiin. Tavoitteena on löytää terveysvaikutuksiltaan henkilökohtaisesti paras ruokavalio. Prosessi alkaa ravinnon henkilökohtaisten vaikutusten mallintamisella ja etenee tätä mallia hyödyntävään päättelyyn. Kun havaintoja ja kokemuksia kertyy, tämä malli tarkentuu, ja samalla tehtävät suositukset täsmentyvät. Jari esittää esimerkkejä tuloksista ja mallinnusprosessin kulkua ylätasolla. Katsomme, miten asiantuntijatietoa hyödynnetään mallinnuksessa.

Keskustelemme, millaisia nykyaikaisia välineitä tilastolliseen mallinnukseen on saatavilla. Esimerkissä on käytetty ns. todennäköisyysohjelmointia, joka mahdollistaa mallien pitkäjänteisen ja järjestelmällisen kehittämisen. Jari esittää myös tähän toteutustapaan liittyviä käsitteitä ja hyötyjä.

Jari Turkia on data-analyytikko ja arkkitehti. Tällä hetkellä Jari ohjaa terveydenhuollon käytännön innovaatioiden kehittämistä. Jarin kiinnostus kohdistuu mm. nykyaikaisen data-analytiikan soveltamiseen yksilölliseen terveydenhuoltoon ja muihin ihmiskeskeisiin ongelmiin.

Irina Steenbeek – Building your successful data lineage case in 9 steps

In this presentation, Irina explains a method for designing, scoping, and implementing a data lineage business case.

Many companies have added data lineage to their agenda during the last few years. Still, the implementation of data lineage experiences a lot of challenges. The most critical ones are:

  • Data lineage remains an abstract concept for many users.
  • The implementation of data lineage is complex and time- and resource-consuming.
  • Even if implemented, data management and business professionals don’t use it as expected.

To anticipate these challenges, we present a method that allows:

  • Designing the metamodel of data lineage that fits the company’s needs and resources.
  • Scoping and implementing a data lineage project.
  • Managing various challenges with the usage of data lineage outcomes.

The presentation is based on the newly published book “Data Lineage from a Business Perspective” by Irina Steenbeek.

Dr. Irina Steenbeek is a data management practitioner. The key areas of her professional expertise are the implementation of data management frameworks in mid-sized companies and data lineage. Additionally, Irina has practical experience in software implementation such as ERP and DWH/BI, management consultation, financial and business controls, and data science.

Throughout the years, she has worked for global institutions as well as large- and medium-sized organizations in different sectors, including but not limited to financial institutions, professional services, and IT companies. In 2016, she founded Data Crossroads – a training and coaching services enterprise in the area of data management.

Irina is a strong believer that the success of data management initiatives is based on the combination of a pragmatic approach, clear and transparent methodology, and time. She has shared her approach and implementation experience by publishing the “Orange” Model of Data Management, The Data Management Toolkit and The Data Management Cookbook. She is also the author of various white-papers and articles on the topic of data management.

The latest book Irina published is from 2021, Data Lineage from a business perspective.

Dave Wells – The Data Literacy Imperative – Developing Individual and Organizational Literacy

It seems that everyone is talking about data literacy today. CDOs position literacy among their top priorities and many organizations count it among their pressing needs. The level of awareness is high. The puzzle is in what comes after awareness. How do you create data literacy? Where to start and how to grow data literacy?

Data literacy is both an individual and an organizational skill set. A data literate individual has the ability to understand, interpret, and apply data to fulfill communication responsibilities of their specific job role. A data literate organization has the ability to communicate, collaborate, and innovate using data. Data literacy growth occurs on both fronts. Individually you need learning plans. Organizationally you need a data literacy program. And it all begins with assessment.

When we imagine information-age organizations, we hope people will find, access, and analyze data with skill and ease. How can we move closer to this data literate utopia? Megan will discuss the necessary foundations for data literacy, the challenges of building data literacy within large organizations, and strategies for the path ahead.

Megan Brown is a teacher, research psychologist, and data scientist. They lead the Knowledge Management and Data Literacy team within Starbucks’ Digital & Analytics function. Their team is responsible for improving analytics processes, driving adoption of Digital & Analytics products, and leveling up data and analytics literacy for Starbucks partners. Megan has two children who love going to parks, zoos, and trains of all sorts. Megan reads, writes, dances with any remaining free time.

The world is in a race to become data-driven – now more than ever. The warp-speed effort to organize scientific and epidemiological data from across the globe in a heroic effort to find a COVID-19 vaccine has illustrated the urgency and existential nature of this quest. We need data, science, facts, knowledge, and insight to make informed, wise, and critical decisions. Now more than ever, data matters, and having good data matters tremendously.

Christopher Bradley has spent 38 years in the forefront of the Information Management field, working for International organisations in Information Management Strategy, Data Governance, Data Quality, Information Assurance, Master Data Management, Metadata Management, Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence.

Chris is an independent Information Strategist & a recognised thought leader. He advises clients including, Enterprise Oil, ExxonMobil, Saudi Aramco, Shell, Statoil, and TOTAL. Outside E&P he works with Alinma Bank, Riyad Bank, SABB, SAMA, Saudi NIC, American Express, ANZ, British Gas, Bank of England, BP, Celgene, Cigna Insurance, Emirates NBD, GSK, HSBC, NAB, and National Grid.

He is VP of Professional Development for DAMA-International, the inaugural Fellow of DAMA CDMP, past president of DAMA UK. He is an author of the DMBOK 2 and author & examiner for professional certifications. In 2016 Chris received the lifetime achievement award from DAMA International for exceptional services to furthering Data Management education & to the International Data Management community.

Recently he has delivered a comprehensive appraisal of Information Management practices at an Oil & Gas super major, Data Governance strategy for a Life Sciences Company, and Information Management training for a Government Organisation.

Chris guides Global organizations on Information Strategy, Data Governance, Information Management best practice and how organisations can genuinely manage Information as a critical corporate asset. Frequently he is engaged to evangelise the Information Management and Data Governance message to Executive management, introduce data governance and new business processes for Information Management and to deliver training and mentoring.

Chris is Director of the E&P standards committee “DMBoard”, sits on several International Data Standards committees, teaches at several Master’s Degree University classes. He authored “Data Modelling for the Business”, is a primary author of DMBoK 2.0, a member of the Meta Data Professionals Organisation (MPO) and a holder at “Fellow” level of CDMP and examiner for several professional certifications.

Chris is an acknowledged thought leader in Data Governance, author of several papers and books, and an expert judge on the annual Data Governance best practice awards.

The Information Technology and Development Center of the Ministry of the Interior (SMIT) offers the development and administration of information systems related to internal security to the Police and Border Guard Board, the Rescue Board, the Emergency Response Center, the Academy of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior.

Every day, SMIT employees contribute to the operation of more than 150 internal security IT services throughout the country. Our workplaces are located in 11 cities and we have more than 300 people, of whom about 90% are involved in the development and management of IT services.

SMIT has built a very comprehensive ’Operational Analytics’ -solution designed to support critical internal security services under the administration of the Ministry of the Interior. Külli Kotter, Product Owner / SMIT, presents from a problem-solving perspective how the DataMart and analytics were built and, above all, what benefits were achieved. She demonstrates using live systems how the Estonian Police and the Emergency Response Center use real-time analytics to make quality decisions in their day-to-day work.
